An Audi client from Wilsonville, Oregon, contacted Kingpin Car & Marine Audio in Portland about getting a 2016 S7 custom radar and laser system for his beautiful new car. In typical Kingpin fashion, we scheduled a consultation appointment for him to stop by our facility with his vehicle. We do this so the client can have a face-to-face meeting with one of our team members in an uninterrupted, focused environment.
Our New Business Model Values Your Time
In fact, if you stop by our facility during normal business hours, you will find that the door will be locked. We have stopped doing walk-in business because we feel it’s unprofessional for a client who has a meeting with us to experience interruptions. When you are scheduled for a consultation with us, you will not see us distracted by phone calls or walk-in clients. We know your time is valuable, so we have gone to this business model to show you how much we value your time.
Client Consultation Pointed To K40 Custom System
When this client arrived, we spent significant time on looking over the S7 together, both the exterior and the interior. Our team asked him several questions about the vehicle, his driving style and his goals for the upgrades. Once we gathered all of our information, it was clear the K40 RL360i system with two front G5 laser defusers and one rear G5 defuser was going to work best for him. We submitted a proposal to the client, which he approved, so we set an installation date.
One of the things we like best about the K40 systems is their infinite installation options – they are designed from the ground up as a custom-installed system. When you couple that fact with their outstanding performance and unprecedented reliability, and you can understand why we love working with this product line.
Front And Rear Protection From K40
For this s7 custom radar install, we chose the RL360i system, since it combines a front radar receiver and a rear radar receiver. Once you have driven with a radar detector with multiple receivers, you will never want to go back to a front-only system. In the event that you come upon two different radar traps near one another, you may develop a false sense of security and start accelerating if you only have a front system, only to find yourself going right into a second radar trap.
Imagine this scenario: You go past the first trap and the signal starts to fade, so you accelerate. A little bit down the road, your detector pegs a full-tilt signal and you don’t have time to slow down, so you roll through it and get a ticket. If you had front and rear receivers, you would be alerted to a front signal until you passed it, and then the alert would go to a rear signal. You would then see a front signal start to appear and would know there is a second speed trap, so you would keep your speed in check.
Secure Mounting Is The Kingpin Way
Kingpin Car & Marine Audio never mounts our sensors using double-sided tape or screws to secure plastic body parts. We always mount all sensors securely. In the front of this vehicle, the sensors were mounted securely to the metal subframe behind the bumper. In the rear of the vehicle, we hid the radar receiver behind the bumper, just like up front, and mounted the rear G5 laser defuser securely on a license plate-mount near the tag.
Another advantage of a custom-installed laser and radar detector is laser defusers versus laser sensors. To be blunt, a laser sensor is a waste of time, since all it does for you is confirm you are about to receive a ticket. The K40 G5 takes protection to the next level. When it sees a laser signal, it immediately fires back powerful beams of light that the laser gun doesn’t understand, giving you precious time to slow down and avoid a ticket.
Custom Mount For K40 Controller
When it came time for the interior installation parts, we custom-fabricated a mount to hold the controller in the ashtray. We like this spot because the client can access it quickly as needed, yet conceal it quickly as well, giving the install a completely stealth look. The K40 system uses LEDs for visual alerts, which we flushed into the instrument cluster, again keeping with the stealth look. We installed a speaker for audible alerts, securely mounted in a hidden location on a custom bracket that we bolted into the vehicle. When the system detects a front alert, the left LED illuminates; in the presence of a rear alert, the right LED illuminates. The speaker gives the driver an audible notification of the type of signal picked up by the K40 system.
Final Testing Reveals Good Result
In typical Kingpin fashion, we tested the system completely before delivering it to the client.
Client Thrilled By Audi S7 Custom Radar And Laser System
When the client picked up his vehicle, he was floored by how inconspicuous the system looked, and how wonderfully it integrated into the vehicle.
