We work hard to ensure that clients of Kingpin Car & Marine Audio are happy with the work we do. A great experience means that they will come back to us the next time they need work done. Such is the case of this client from West Linn, OR. We made an appointment to review plans for his 2003 Cadillac Escalade. He wanted more than just an audio system – a complete transformation was on tap. The project would include audio, a security and remote starter system, new lighting, and a complete Escalade vehicle wrap for the exterior of the vehicle.
Multi-layer Subwoofer Enclosure
With the plan in place, we set to work on fabricating a custom subwoofer enclosure that would be home to a pair of Hertz HX 300 D 12-inch subwoofers and a 1,200 watt Exile 12.1 amplifier. We worked out a two-tone design with the client and included tan and black vinyl for a high-contrast look. Pressed mesh inserts over the amplifier and enclosure vents give the enclosure a clean and complete look. We topped it off with a cut-vinyl Cadillac logo. Attention to detail on the enclosure included flushing the enclosure to the existing side panels and creating a matching trim around the amplifier. You can see the amplifier if you look between the second-row bucket seats.
Source Unit Replacement
We removed the factory radio from the dash, and the cassette player from the center console. We created a new insert for the dash and mounted the factory analog clock and a Cadillac logo in it. Using an iPad mount from Soundman Car Audio, we created a home for the client’s iPad mini in the center console. This serves as the source unit for the system. We also installed a remote level control for the Exile amplifier in the dash underneath the center air vent.
While the vehicle was apart to install wiring for the audio system, we installed a Viper 5706 remote starter and security system. The client can use the remote starter system to help to cool off the truck in the summer as much as to warm it up in the winter.
The client wanted the look of the vehicle changed. We proposed a complete vehicle wrap, using 3M 1080 Wrap Film. With all the handles and trim removed, we covered the vehicle in matte deep black to give the truck an aggressive look. We also installed a set of Spyder headlights to complete the refreshed exterior styling.
Every time we complete a vehicle wrap, we are as excited as the customer to see the outcome. In the case of this Escalade, the matte gray was impressive and gave the truck a whole new attitude.
With the work on the truck complete, we arrived at our favorite part of any Kingpin Car & Marine Audio project: delivery back to the customer. With so many things to look at (the wrap, the remote starter system, the iPad mount and the custom subwoofer enclosure), it took a while to go through the entire vehicle with the customer. He was thrilled with the results. The style was exactly what he wanted, and the audio system sounded great.
