The owner of this gorgeous 2017 Toyota Tundra CrewMax contacted Kingpin Car and Marine Audio to inquire about having a radar detector system installed. The client made a short drive from Henderson, NV, so we could have a look at his truck and talk about where and how he drives. Armed with a thorough understanding of his needs, we created a quote to install a radar detection and laser shifter system. He liked the plan, so we made an appointment to start the Tundra CrewMax radar project.
Radar Detection System

The client chose the Escort 9500CI radar detector. The system includes a dual antenna front-mounted radar receiver, the main control module, display, a GPS antenna and a compact control module. We installed the main control module to the left of the glove box, and we located the GPS antenna at the top of the dash.
To ensure that information was also easy to see, we removed the instrument cluster and mounted the display module in the lower center section. This location puts the display right in front of the driver, making it prominent at all times.
Laser Shifting System
The client wanted laser detection as well as radar. To mount the “shifters” from the Escort Laser Shifter Pro system, we cut a piece of aluminum bar and painted it black. On either end of the bar, we mounted one of the laser shifter modules. We mounted the radar received in the center. Once it was assembled, and with all the wiring neatly bundled together, we secured the aluminum bar to the vehicle using two existing holes in the front bumper support. We installed nutserts in these holes to ensure a solid and reliable installation.
It is critical to the function of the laser shifters that they are parallel to the ground and are aimed within 2 degrees of the center line of the vehicle. Only under these conditions do they offer maximum performance. We installed two more laser shifters on the rear of the vehicle to protect against readings taken after the vehicle has passed a laser gun.
Tundra CrewMax Radar Installation

We solder every bare wire electrical connection and wrap it in premium-quality vinyl electrical tape. We then bundle all the wiring and wrap it with Tesa cloth tape to keep it secure and prevent it from buzzing or rattling while the client is driving.
The client returned to Kingpin Car and Marine Audio in Wilsonville, Oregon, to pick up his Toyota. He was thrilled with how we integrated the system into the truck.
