The owner of this immaculate 2017 Dodge Challenger contacted Kingpin Car and Marine Audio about his audio system. He had another local shop do some work, but was not thrilled with how it turned out. We scheduled a consultation to let him experience our fully active demonstration display. Right away. he knew there was more wrong with the system than he had suspected. We looked over the vehicle and, based on our understanding of what kind of sound he liked, gave him a quote to make Dodge Challenger audio system sound the way it should.
Front-stage and Rear-fill Solution
We started by installing a trio of Hertz speakers in each front corner of the vehicle. A set of Hertz ML280 tweeters, ML700 midrange speakers and a set of ML 1800 midbass drivers serve to reproduce frequencies above about 75 Hz. We powered the front stage with an Audison AV Quattro and two channels from an AV 5.1k.
Custom Subwoofer Enclosure
The client clearly liked bass, so we build an enclosure for a pair of Hertz HX300 subwoofers. The subs fire rearward into the trunk of the vehicle to help reinforce low-frequency output.
Our fabrication team came up with a cool grille for the subs. First, we made an hourglass-shaped grille with chamfered edges. We pressed stainless steel mesh to fill the inside of the grille and add another layer of depth and dimension to the trim piece. Finally, the guys made a curved mounting bridge for a 6.4L Hemi badge. We used a few of the 3D router techniques we teach at Kingpin University to make the bridge. We wrapped it up by wrapping everything in vinyl for a custom look.
Amplifier Mounting Rack
The pair of Audison amplifiers lives in the storage space under the floor that would normally be occupied by a spare tire. Dodge provides an air compressor instead, so we had lots of room to build a steel amp rack out of 1-inch square tubing. With the battery a few inches to the right, it was easy to power the amplifiers. We also installed an Audison bit ONE DSP to let us tune the system.
Client Loved His Dodge Challenger Audio
The Portland-based client was thrilled with the sound of the new Dodge Challenger audio system. He loved that accuracy of the soundstage and how dynamic it sounded.
