A client from Portland contacted Kingpin Car & Marine Audio about upgrading the audio system in his 2015 Malibu Wakesetter. Our team scheduled a time for him to stop by with the boat so we could look it over with him and get to know him better. Since our company does lots and lots of marine audio systems, we already knew this boat well. Once we understand how the client planned on using the boat, we worked up one of our packages for him, which he liked, so we scheduled an installation date to get started on it.
Preamp Gives Audio Control
We started by adding an Exile ZLD2 preamp to the factory stereo system already installed. This neat piece gives the client complete control over three separate zones: the cabin, tower and subwoofer. He also gained an aux input, making it easy to play his portable media. We fabricated a custom mount to hold the unit below and to the left of the steering wheel, making it easy for anyone to make sound adjustments.
Great Sound For Everyone
One of the client’s requests was great sound for people engaging in watersports or lounging in the water, so we added two pairs of Exile SXT9 speakers on the tower, as well as an Exile XM3o amplifier. This combination of products means everyone around the boat will hear the music crystal-clear, whether the boat is sitting still or cruising at speed.
Another request was dramatically improved output and bass when inside the boat, so we added an Exile Javelin amplifier. That gave the existing boat speakers 400 watts of power, so now they can play much louder than before.
Finally, in usual Kingpin fashion, we added a Hertz HX300D 12” subwoofer in a custom enclosure with our Kingpin Signature trim panel that matched the interior theme of the boat. We used the subwoofer channel of the Javelin amp, sending 800 watts to it. We made the enclosure out of Starboard, a marine composite that is completely impervious to water.
One of the reasons so may people trust us with their boats is our installation materials and attention to detail. Every single part we install in a boat, from a screw to a piece of upholstery, is marine-grade. All of our wiring is properly loomed and secured in place for easy servicing in the future. We do all of this to ensure years of reliable service for the client.
Client Loved The Malibu Wakesetter Audio System
When the client came to pick up this Wakesetter, he loved it! Everything from the easy operation to the increased output and bass just made his face light up. That made our day.
