This Las Vegas, NV client wanted to complete his GMC C-15 restoration plans. The overall project was more involved than our usual audio builds – the truck needed some restoration as well. Since we were going to take a lot of the interior apart for the sound system, though, replacing panels and components wasn’t a problem.
Custom Enclosures For Premium Sound And Convenience
We started the project with the complete removal of the vehicle’s interior. We ran wiring for amplifiers, speakers, subwoofers and lighting, and then covered the floor with a brand-new interior carpet. We created a shallow subwoofer enclosure on the rear wall of the vehicle to provide a solid low-frequency foundation for the system. We integrated a floating trim panel and white LED lighting into the enclosure to give it some dimension and style. We chose a pair of Hertz Dieci series DS300.3 12-inch subwoofers for subwoofer duties. We mounted one sub directly behind each seat for the most physical impact. The cabinet is finished in black vinyl to match the doors, dash and seats.
Working our way forward in the vehicle, we created a new center console for the client. It includes a pair of stainless steel cup holders and a covered storage compartment. A powered USB port in the storage area gives the customer a way to charge his phone. We continued the edge-lid theme with a strip of narrow white LEDs on each side. The LED strips are concealed, so the lighting effect is distinct and subtle.
Loud And Clear Hertz Speakers And Exile Amplifier
The client specifically requested that the system be able to crank to 11. To fulfill his goal, we installed two sets of Hertz HSK-165 6-1/2” component speakers in each door. We created a custom panel to cover the portion of the door that the factory door panels don’t conceal. Shaped and layered MDF serves as the mount for the speakers and the grille trim. Custom pressed 3D steel grilles ensure that the speakers are not damaged by shoes or boots when people are getting into or out of the truck. We created another custom insert at the top of the door to house a pair of tweeters.
The speakers are fed by an Exile Car Audio XM100.5 five-channel amplifier known as the Javelin. The amp powers the whole system with 100 watts to each of the four front channels and 800 watts for the pair of subwoofers. A Pioneer DEH-80PRS head unit controls the system and allows the client to connect his smartphone for phone calls and music playback.
A Complete GMC C15 Restoration
As the truck was put back together, we replaced the headliner, door panels, windows, dash, dash pad and even the seats with brand-new parts from LMC Truck. LMC offers thousands of reproduction parts for trucks and SUVs from Chevy, GMC, Ford and Dodge. Their fit and finish is great, and that makes them easy to install. The client spent more than $5,000 with LMC Truck – a great investment in his vehicle, since the interior is essentially brand-new.
We replaced the stock analog gauges with new digital units from Dakota Digital during the dash reassembly and even dropped in new headlights, corner lights and trim.
Pioneer Headunit Offers DSP Tuning Capabilities For This GMC C-15 Restoration
Each and every installation at Kingpin Car & Marine Audio is completed by undergoing our extensive tuning and validation process. Using the equalization, signal filtering and time alignment capabilities of the Pioneer head unit, we were able to dial in the system for fantastic sound quality, realism and sheer volume. Because the interior of the truck is small, the sound is as intense as a live concert – exactly what the client wanted. He was beyond thrilled with the sound, and the smile on his face as he looked over the interior assured us that the fabrication and restoration exceeded his expectations.
