Recently, the team at Kingpin had a fun, yet intense, day of first aid training. This was not just an ordinary first aid training, though. Store owner Jason brought in active EMT and military PJs to instruct for the day. The entire team was trained and equipped to respond in the case of a natural disaster, shooting, bombing or trauma incident. This was the first time a training like this took place at the store.
Why Does A Car Audio Store Need First Aid Training?
Jason wanted his crew trained in first aid because, he said, “I want my team to be able to handle any emergency response. I want to equip them to treat themselves, each other and any clients who may be in our store if an emergency situation should take place.” Another factor that played into this decision is the fact that Kingpin team members use heavy machinery and power tools in their installation bay. Of course, we all hope that a serious incident will never occur, but it’s better to be prepared than unprepared. Should someone suffer an injury, the team will be able to respond in the right way so the victim doesn’t bleed out while waiting for an ambulance and professional help.
How The Training Worked
The training involved several elements. First, the crew learned the M.A.R.C.H. System, a five-step process to help a trauma victim. Steps include looking for large wounds, checking airways and respiratory system, bandaging open wounds, and helping the victim maintain body temperature. The team also learned the proper way to use a CAT tourniquet.
After learning the main techniques, the whole team did some situational role-playing. One exercise involved a tech cutting off his hand while using a table saw. Another team member jumped in to take charge and delegate jobs to everyone present: One person called 911, the team implemented the M.A.R.C.H. steps and one person used a CAT tourniquet . Another team member made sure the entrance to the store was clear of any cars or clients so it would be easy for medical workers to enter. One last team member sealed off the vehicle that was being worked on to eliminate any blood stains in the client’s car.
Kingpin Goes Above And Beyond
The crew at Kingpin now know how to respond in an emergency situation on the job. Perhaps even better, they will also be available to help in the local area should something arise.
The special training was a fun day of “work” for everyone on the Kingpin team. Jason loves to create an environment that gets his staff excited about work.
