Tablets for your Dash.
Who doesn’t love their Apple® iPad® with all the functionality of apps, connectivity and content storage? Many of Kingpin Car & Marine Audio’s technology savvy clients request that their iPad be integrated into their dashboard and become the hub of the vehicle’s entertainment system. Having developed a proprietary approach to iPad dashboard and electronic integration, Kingpin’s expert and talented installation technicians can integrate an iPad into your vehicle with a high degree of intuitive functionality and cosmetic appeal. Many of Kingpin’s Las Vegas area clients are so amazed with the finished installations that they swear it looks like an iPad came in the dash from the factory. Now that’s integration.
Is Tablet Integration for You?
Not every client or vehicle dashboard is suited for an iPad integration approach. While Kingpin’s technicians are amazingly talented at perfecting the appearance and user experience of iPad integration, the physical dash area constraints of some vehicles such as locations of air vents, HVAC controls, relocation requirements for switches or other user interfaces may present alternative, more viable options. If your vehicle is a suitable candidate for iPad integration, Kingpin offers three methods of signal integration into the vehicle’s audio system:
- Analog Wired FM Modulation – This is the most straightforward method in which to integrate an iPad into your car’s sound system. Simply tune to a preset FM channel and the iPad’s audio output is ‘broadcast’ over that FM frequency. The only limitation to this option is the frequency response of your car’s FM tuner. While most music covers 20Hz-20kHz, many FM tuners limit the upper range of that frequency response at 14-15kHz.
- Analog Wired Auxiliary Input – This option offers a better frequency response bandwith than FM modulation for a complete 20Hz-20kHz full range experience. Depending on your vehicle and whether you use the factory supplied stereo or an aftermarket head unit, the method of wiring an input differs. However, it’s always done in a way to extract the best possible analog sound from the iPad and send it through the car’s audio system in the most direct way possible.
- Digital Connection to a Signal Processor – This is the most premium, sound quality oriented method available. Kingpin’s expert technicians can extract a pristine full digital audio signal from the iPad and connect the signal directly into a robust DSP-based signal processor where the magic happens. With digital signal processing that includes time correction to optimize listening position, crossover filters to direct the appropriate signals to the appropriate speakers and virtually unlimited bands of graphic or parametric equalization, the iPad and digital signal processor combination are the cornerstone of a reference-quality automotive sound system that’ll have you taking the long route home.
