A client from Hillsboro, Oregon, contacted Kingpin Car & Marine Audio about some custom fabrication for his 1966 Chevy Chevelle project. He had been searching for a unique center console solution. He had plans for an audio system for the car as well, so he wanted us to integrate the remote control for that with the console.
We started by creating the outside walls of the console to establish the height of the armrest. We then used a technique called Stak Fab to fill in the space between the walls. We created a storage area under the armrest and installed a pair of spring-loaded hinges on the back of the lid for easy access. At the front of the storage area, we made a home for his Audison DRC remote control. The DRC will allow the client to make changes to his audio system and can act as the master volume control.
In front of the storage area, we installed a pair of brushed aluminum cup holders. We added brushed aluminum trim on either side of the lower section for a cosmetic accent.
